Hey Hi

2017

A robot that uses your phone

Science fiction promised us (I always thought) robots with humanoid forms that were capable of doing anything a person could. With two arms and two legs you can drive, type, play an instrument, use a tool, and so on.

Given that we now conduct a significant portion of our daily business through the interface of a 4-inch smartphone touchscreen, as soon as a machine can touch any point on that screen and send information through, it's as good as we are in that interaction.

How does this make us feel? Do we trust that machine? Do we still trust what we receive through it, if it might have been sent by machine?

In truth, a lot of what we interact with already came from a machine: your facebook news feed, your google ads, your spotify playlists. I think this machine might help us understand that and move forward.
